There is a new surcharge on toll calls from 870 area code phone numbers.Starting January 1, 2019, all toll calls originating from 870 area code phone numbers will be subject to an additional surcharge of five cents per minute.

This surcharge will apply to both landline and mobile phone calls.

The goal of this surcharge is to help fund the maintenance and expansion of the state's telecommunications infrastructure.
